Our School - Principal's Message

Keilor Primary School has enjoyed a strong reputation in the Keilor community for over 140 years. The school staff and community share a passion for the students and their learning. The whole school community has contributed to developing a purposeful community and culture so that students love coming to school and can thrive educationally, socially and emotionally.

Our school’s mission, vision and values guide the common expectations and practices across the school.

Our school curriculum has a strong focus on developing highly literate and numerate students, and over recent years has achieved outstanding academic results for our students. Students develop ownership of their personal learning through the process of setting personal learning goals, and regularly receiving multiple forms of feedback on their learning from self-reflection, and peer and teacher feedback. All teachers across the school use the principles of Visible Learning to plan and deliver curriculum instruction, including learning intentions and success criteria. Over recent times we have also committed to instilling a growth mindset in our students, so that they can positively taken on challenges to further their learning.

Specialist curriculum areas operating within the school include Health and Physical Education (P-6), Visual Arts (P-6), Performing Arts (P-2), Science (3-6), Library (P-6) and Italian (5/6). Extra curricula activities include a school choir, music tuition, summer and winter interschool sports, and athletics. Further curriculum support for identified students is provided through our Literacy and Numeracy Support Programs, which provides targeted support to students on a needs basis.

I look forward to our school continuing to have a strong local presence in our community over the coming years, as our school and community work side by side to continue to develop well-educated, resilient, and empathetic citizens.
