Term 4
Term 4
Welcome Back to Term 4
The Grade 3/4 teachers, Mr Van O, Mrs D’Amico, Ms Hasan, Mrs Davis, Mrs Evans, and Mr Costa, wish all their students and families a happy term.
Mathematics
Areas that students will be working on this term include:
Fractions
Chance
Measurement (Time)
Financial Maths
Number Facts/Multiplication Tables
Knowing and revising number facts and times tables is crucial for Grade 3 and 4 students. Working on multiples of 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10 greatly benefits all students. Please practise as often as you can with your child/children.
Reading
During reading sessions, students will continue to develop their understanding and comprehension skills through varied text analysis. Our focus areas in Term 4 include Inferring characters' traits and experiences and evaluating and comparing texts.
Writing
Procedure Texts
Students will develop strategies and ideas for planning, writing, and revising procedural texts, focusing on clear instructions and structured steps.
Persuasive Texts
Students will revise and enhance their persuasive writing skills. They will also learn how to effectively present a point of view using strong arguments and supporting evidence.
Poetry Texts
Students will create poems, including Haiku, Limerick, Diamante, and Colour Poems, while exploring different poetic techniques and forms.
Wellbeing Hour
In our Rights, Resilience, and Respectful Relationships (4Rs) curriculum, students will focus on 'Help-Seeking'. They will explore a variety of conflict resolution and help-seeking strategies to achieve positive outcomes. Additionally, students will discuss the concept of leadership and identify situations where adopting a leadership role is appropriate. Finally, they will learn and apply strategies for managing situations that make them feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
Word Study
Students will investigate and explore word families, origins, different letter patterns and rules, strengthening strategies students can draw on when spelling unfamiliar words.
Integrated Studies
The students will explore "Inventing" and investigate how to use and develop creative ideas to solve everyday problems. Students will identify something they wish could make a part of their life easier, brainstorm potential inventions, and think critically about the materials and designs that could bring their ideas to life.
Students will draw a design for their invention, collaborate in groups to refine their concepts and develop a brief outline of the purpose and function of their creation. They will also write a procedural text detailing how to build a prototype of their invention, step-by-step. To conclude, students will engage in persuasive discussions to justify their choice of materials and explain why their invention is the best solution for the identified problem.
Other information
-
Students are encouraged to bring fresh fruit or vegetables to eat during the morning session. We also encourage them to have clean, fresh water in their drink bottles daily.
-
We look forward to your support with homework again this term. Please listen to your child read at least 30 minutes per night (if possible) and that they record this in their home reader. The students will also bring familiar texts home. Teachers will send homework on Wednesdays, with students returning the homework the following Monday. Mathletics and Literacy Planet are always available if students wish to do additional homework.
-
Please ensure your child has their school hat clearly labelled with their names daily. Hats must be worn outside from September to the end of April. Teachers will remind students, 'No Hat, No Play!' It is also important that students apply sunscreen before school and before break times.
