Excursion, Incursion and Camping Program

At Keilor Primary School, excursions, incursions and camps are some of the highlights of the school year for the students. These allow students to gain a wide range of hands on experiences in and around our community, access some of the best educational facilities around Melbourne and during our camping program, explore nature, scenery and activities in a variety of locations.

Excursions and incursions aim to give students the opportunity to experience aspects of topics and units covered in the classroom from a different perspective. Students are emerged in hands on activities, talks and question time with experts and the ability to experience firsthand how people and animals may live or have lived in the past.

The camping program begins for our students gradually in Grade Prep, with students attending a breakfast in their pyjamas. In Grade 1 the students enjoy a dinner at school with focus on increasing independence. Grade 2 students have a rare opportunity to have dinner and sleepover at school.

In Grades 3-6 the students alternate between different locations each year, spending two nights at their location and have the opportunity to take part in the unique experiences that each location has to offer.

These experiences allow students to develop independence, team work, resilience and respect in an enjoyable way and create treasured memories with their peers.

Swimming Program

The KPS Swimming Program includes children from Prep to Grade 4, teaching them safety in and around the water. Children have their skills assessed each lesson and learn in groups base on their ability.

Our students regularly participate in the District swimming event, with some progressing even further.

Interschool Sports

Our Grade 5 and 6 students participate in weekly Interschool Sport matches throughout the year in a range of sports. These include AFL, soccer, Hot Shots tennis, netball, teeball and much more. The aim of the program is to promote participation and enjoyment.

Interschool Sports is a great opportunity for students to try new sports that they wouldn’t ordinarily play at home.

KPS Builders

Our KPS Builders program provides opportunities for hands-on learning, inquiry, observation and experimentation across the curriculum. Students engage in activities where they build important personal and interpersonal skills such as teamwork, turn talking, communication and resilience.

The program promotes physical activity in quality outdoor experiences, where students have the opportunity to work on engaging group projects to beautify our school grounds. The group are currently in the process of planting seedlings in our garden, which produces lots of fresh produce over the year.

The annual KPS Art Show gives our talented students the opportunity to showcase their works from throughout the year. All students have at least one piece in the show, which they produce in weekly art lessons over the course of the school year.

Parents and the wider community are invited into the school late in Term 4 to view the artworks and purchase them, with funds raised going to the school.

Lunchtime Clubs

Students have many opportunities to participate in lunchtime clubs throughout the year. Clubs are aimed at student interests and give them opportunities to further enhance their existing skills.

Some of the clubs that are currently offered are the KPS Choir and Chess Club. The choir rehearse a wide range of songs and perform regularly at the weekly school assembly. Chess club has recently been introduced and has seen many students develop a keen interest in the game. Tournaments are a new feature of the club, where students hone their skills in competitive matches against each other, with winners receiving a prize.

Colour Fun Run

Our annual Colour Fun Run is something the students looks forward to each and every year. Students get splashed with colour as they run laps of our school oval with their buddy.

The Colour Run is a school fundraiser which raises money for additional literacy resources across the school.

The event is run by student leaders, who have a lot of input into how the event is organised.
