Term 2

Welcome Back to Term 2

Mr Van Opijnen, Ms Hasan, Mrs Suckling, Mrs Evans, Mrs Croswell and Mrs Davis wish all the students and families a happy term.

Mathematics

Throughout the term, students will focus on the following topics in their Mathematics: Money, Addition, Subtraction, 2D and 3D Shapes, Lines, Angles and Statistics. Every week, there will be a focus on enhancing the students’ problem-solving skills.

Reading

During reading sessions, the students will develop their understanding and comprehension skills. Our focus areas in Term 2 will be summarising, synthesising, visualising, and predicting.

Writing

Information Reports - Students will develop an ability to research topics for their information texts. They will learn about the features and structure of this text type.

Procedural Texts - Students will write various procedural texts following the required structure and features.

Word Study

Students will focus on different strategies to develop and assist them in improving their spelling skills and strategies. Students will investigate and explore different letter patterns and rules. Teachers will focus on students' individualised spelling lists this term.

Integrated Studies

This term, we will focus on Geography. This unit will help students develop their understanding of Australia and its neighbouring countries by comparing their characteristics and climate.

Other information

  • Every Wednesday afternoon, the whole school will have a focus on Wellbeing. During this session, students will participate in the 'Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships' program, focusing on developing students' social, emotional and positive relationship skills. They will continue with The Resilience Project, recognising and developing character strengths, empathy, mindfulness and gratitude. Students will also develop strategies they can use to promote success in their learning and engage in various functional tasks focusing on online safety as a part of our commitment to our eLearning program.

  • Students are encouraged to bring fresh fruit or vegetables during the morning session. They are also encouraged to have clean, labelled drink bottles with fresh water daily.

  • We look forward to your support with homework this term. Please ensure you listen to your child read at least 20 - 30 minutes per night. The children may bring familiar texts home. Teachers will send homework every Wednesday. Students are to return homework the following Monday. There will continue to be a Spelling and Numeracy focus from what has been covered in the classroom as part of our homework this year. Students are also able to continue to use Mathletics and Literacy Planet. Homework will commence in Week 1 this term.
